The participants will be learning about the limitations of culture-based diagnostics, specifically for the detection of UTIs in dogs. Focus of the talk are the advantages of using a next generation DNA sequencing approach to detect and quantify aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, their antibiotic resistance genes, and fungi populations coexisting in the urine environment. Furthermore, etiological agents of human UTIs will be discussed revealing surprising connections between food-born disease and UTIs”.
