🧬 Featured Research: Understanding Respiratory Disease in Dogs
Don’t miss our team’s latest research presentation:
Unraveling Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRDC): Nasal Microbiome Differences in Healthy vs. Symptomatic Dogs
CIRDC is highly contagious and complex to treat, yet there’s limited research on the nasal microbiome’s role in this condition. Our study is one of the first to analyze the nasal bacterial and fungal microbiome at the species level using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Key findings highlight differences in microbial communities between healthy dogs and those affected by CIRDC, with notable co-occurrence patterns between bacterial and fungal pathogens that could reshape diagnosis and treatment approaches.
Key data points include:
-
Healthy dogs showed higher levels of Moracellaceae sp., Streptococcus canis, and Pseudomonadales sp.
-
Symptomatic dogs exhibited increased Staphylococcus, Pasteurella canis, and Mycoplasma cynos.
-
The fungal profile also shifted significantly, with species like Dothideomycetes and Curvularia more prevalent in infected dogs.
-
Co-occurrence analysis revealed both synergistic and antagonistic bacterial-fungal relationships that may influence disease progression.
